Marion Makes…

There is something singularly distressing about that first nose blow after hard work in a yard full of dusty dirt.

I got a lot done! The grass and weeds are cleared all the way around the garden, except for the part full of critter’s plants and weeds that they said they wanted to take sometime eventually and we just had to keep em in the ground at Grandma’s request til then.

(the latest update is actually they don’t want them anymore (now that we’ve sat here watching the section get wild waiting for them to take them for weeks) unless someone (it ain’t me) wants to put some of the small ones in pots for them (ok your mother just broke her rib and she’s the only one who would do it but go off I guess) so I’m just gonna rip em up soon anyways)

So that’s kinda exciting cuz maybe this season we’ll actually get some better soil in the beds and maybe, just mayyybe, we can plant a few things in the fall. It’s more than I thought would get done already even if we don’t. I’m happy. Yard work is a lot easier and faster when it’s on a flat yard and not a massive hill like our last house. Imagine.

I also discovered that the creeping vine along the property line seems to be a well established, tiny-fruit-bearing grape vine! The problem is it’s well established right up against a fence and our neighbor’s detached garage 😭 it would be a huge project to pull it off without killing it and put it on a trellis… And then yearly work to keep it trimmed back… But also I had a grape vine in my back yard growing up, and the memories of trying sour grapes and checking on the vine are vivid and treasured. So my sentimental mind is even more invested in not just ripping it all out than before. Sorry Nate 😂 surely we can figure something out, right?! We’ll see.

Now I’m sitting down to work on Jamie’s blanket for a while before bed. I’ll report progress when it actually exists in some significant amount, lol.

He’s starting to smile socially, more and more every day, and he’s cooing now instead of just wailing. He’s three months old today!
